After what happened in the gym, Ed sort of wanted to get out before the guy in the river got to him or another crazy person appears. Anubis was healed at a pokemon center before continuing. However, Anubis wasn't at the draw of Ed if he needed to battle a pokemon or person. It was Gulpin instead. He thought he needed to get used to gulpin still... He hadn't realy bonded with it much.
