Baby Steps

The hoothoot was sucked into the pokeball, it gave an enraged "HOOT!" as it popped back out. It used another hypnosis and ran at the pokemon again in a tackle attack.

Esther gave an annoyed groan, seeing the pokeball fail. She watched as her Axew got hit by the tackle, attempting to retaliate with another combination of Leer and Scratch. The battle was going nowhere, and the trainer was not happy with the failure of capturing the ridiculous bird. She shuffled through her bag again, taking out another ball. Her Axew did her best in trying to hold off the bird for a while now, even though she had just been hatched, and the trainer wasn't going to allow such efforts to go to waste.

The hoothoot shook three times before breaking free of the capturing device it seemed to be getting cocky. It laughed at the trainer's luck and sent a hypnosis along with yet another tackle, the attacks seemed more relaxed though due to the hoothoot's over confidence.

Amora was beginning to get impatient. Her rage fueled her enough that she didn't fall for the bird's dances, but the more she was getting hit by its Tackles, the less she wanted to hold back and just rip the bird apart. It was mean, but for some reason, she could feel the urge rearing in a way that was almost natural. Like an instinct. She waited for her trainer's orders.

Esther stomped her foot in frustration. The bird wasn't going into the pokeballs any time soon. She sighed, deciding to let this one fail. Wasting 3 pokeballs on a Hoothoot? She'd prefer not to. She snapped her fingers, a merciless glare in her eyes. "Finish it. Don't hold back. Make it pay for wasting those pokeballs." She said, in a voice almost akin to demonic.

The dragon complied almost immediately, glaring at the HootHoot with pure hatred before lunging at it. Instead of her claws, however, she had her mouth open for a fatal bite. Her fangs were large and sharp, just like other Axews, and accompanied with her tusks, they made for a deadly weapon.

The hoothoot screeched as it was bitten, it had leaped out enough to avoid a critical hit, but the Axew had caught it in the foot! It fought uselessly to escape the dragon pokemon's jaws, but it was if if the pokemon had a lock-jaw and refused to open. The hoothoot tried for a last hypnosis but failed to summon up the energy for it, it looked at the Axew, pleading to be released.

Amora grew hesitant, but held onto her grip on the Hoothoot's leg. What should she do? Her trainer had just asked her to finish it off. The urge to end the bird was almost nagging in her head, but she continued to fight back. Why did she feel like doing this? Why couldn't she do as her trainer asked? Various contradicting questions began to flood the little dragon's head as she thought of what decision to take.

"Amora, what do you think you're doing?! I said, FINISH IT." Her trainer called, more impatient this time. The seething anger in her voice made the Axew shudder. Why was her trainer sounding so scary? It wasn't anything like when they met. The feeling of shame came upon the dragon when she thought of the possibilities why her trainer seemed so mad. A single reason stood out from the rest: Her trainer was angry at how weak she was being. The axew didn't know why, but taking so much time in finishing off the hoothoot made her feel... weak.

Amora gave an apologizing look for a mere second, before returning to her ferocious self. No, she wasn't going to look weak! She was going to be all strong and great and make her trainer never be mad at her ever again. And right now, all she had to blame was the stupid bird in her mouth. She chomped down onto the leg, before trying to throw the bird onto the ground and ending it with one last bite.

As the bird was thrown, a blue figure leaped out into the air and caught it like a foot ball before the Axew could do anymore. The lucario huffed in disappointment at the two and ran off with the Football-hoothoot, taking it to the nearest pokemon center, "Really now was that necessary?" a voice asked as a ranger stepped from the bushes. He had semi-long black hair and an Umbreon at his side, "I could fine you for that, but it's probably your first time, so i'll let it pass. The Hoothoot had given up, why did you go off and nearly kill it!?" the ranger's name was Drake, beside him was an Umbreon and a Houndoom who both look as equally as angry.

'Oh great. That uniform. It's one of those ranger-hippie guys.' Esther could feel herself mentally roll her eyes. The ridiculous outfit coupled with the boy's 'hero' attitude made it difficult not to laugh, but the white-haired trainer remained unfazed. She stared at the ranger in a questioning way, almost as if she had no idea what he was talking about. "Kill? I never said anything like that. I wanted my Axew to knock it unconscious, like all other battles. Just because she doesn't know the move Bite doesn't mean she can't perform the action in battle, does it? Also, I don't speak pokemon. How was I supposed to know the Hoothoot forfeit? It was in the middle of the battle and my pokemon had the upper hand. It could be possible that the bird could've just been pretending." She said nonchalantly.

The Axew watched as the Lucario ran away with the Hoothoot. She seemed pretty confused, not expecting the battle to have ended in such a way. Did all battles end with stranger blue pokemon jumping out of nowhere and swooping the enemy away? It was a funny thought, but the idea sounded silly. She turned, spotting another human with a couple of pokemon. They looked cool! She grinned, waving at them. "Axew! Xew axew ax! < Hi there! Did you come to watch the battle? >"

The umbreon and houndoom snorted, not wanting to talk to a pokemon that nearly murdered another. Their trainer huffed, "The pokemon was weak as it was, a good trainer knows when to stop. Even if the pokemon begs to be finished off you never kill a pokemon. As for knowing the hoothoot forfeited, it clearly couldn't fight anymore, watch what you do. You will be caught again if you do this again, and you probably wont have such a nice ranger. Drake huffed, he had better things to do right now, he was on a mission. The poor hoothoot was probably in critical condition. When his lucario returned the ranger left with his pokemon, moving on. He had to get back to base and fast.

Esther raised a brow at the ranger. He sounded like a complete moron, with no logic in his explanation at all. Didn't he know 10-year olds were being dragged into the pokemon world? He might as well go preaching if he thought everyone knew that. Nice ranger her right, he was more of a complete ignorant idiot. She gave him an eerily happy 'Thank you, and goodbye~' as he left, happy that he was leaving. Once the ranger had left for good, she looked down at her Axew, seeing the little dragon confused. The trainer was preoccupied with talking to the ranger, but she had seen how her pokemon tried to greet the ranger's. With a smile, she spoke. "Amora, don't mind them. They're snobs. All ranger pokemon are snobs who try to be goody two shoes and are as blissfully ignorant as their trainers. Rangers are horrible, don't let them get to you."

Amora felt conflicted. Why were those pokemon so angry? She looked up at her trainer, listening to her words closely. She breathed a sigh of relief, comforted to know that it wasn't her fault. Those pokemon were just meanies, and if they were meanies, then their human was a meanie too. She smiled back to her trainer, back to being happy and chipper. "Xew xew!" She exclaimed.

Esther gave her Axew a nice pat on the head. "But do learn to finish off your opponents quicker. Those horrible rangers will come and get you if you take too long." She said, to which her Axew eagerly nodded. With that, they continued wandering for their training.

It took an hour for something to happen, but the wandering paid off as a boy leaped out of the bushes in front of the two, he seemed eager and over excited. The boy shouted, "You and me are going to battle! Believe it!"with that he slammed a pokeball on the ground and out popped a psyduck.

Ninja Trainer Otaki would like to battle!

Esther was surprised to see a little boy, clad in a dark ninja costume jump out from the shrubs. He spoke with enthusiasm, demanding a battle and sending out his pokemon before she could even react. She snickered, liking the kid's energy. She hadn't had a trainer battle yet, and Amora would need all the training she could get in order to become a strong pokemon. "You're on, kid." She said, watching as the ninja-wannabe sent out a Psyduck.

Amora gave a squeal, happy that she would be able to fight with another trainer pokemon. She could feel adrenaline begin to rush in as she stepped onto the battle field, claws unsheathed and ready to attack. "Axew xew axew! < Hi I'm Amora! Let's have a great battle! >" She said with as much enthusiasm as the psyduck's trainer.

The psyduck tilted it's head, suffering a headache but trying to be friendly towards the other pokemon. It heard a command from it's owner and began wagging it's tail back and forth while clutching it's head. It was using tail whip. The Psyduck then held out it's hand on order from it's trainer and ran at the Axew with a scratch attack.

Amora giggled, watching the psyduck hold its head in a silly way. Was this pokemon in pain or something? The little dragon watched as it teetered back and forth, wagging its tail as her. She felt her defenses fall before getting hit by the duck's Scratch. She gave a cry, before shaking off the pain and waiting for her trainer's orders. She used Leer, a piercing glare being sent to the Psyduck as she lunged for a Scratch in return for the earlier gesture.

The psyduck was struck with both attacks, "PSYYYYYIYYIYIYIYIYDUCK!?" it cried in pain. The psyduck wagged its tail back and forth more furiously than before and ran in for another scratch. The trainer smiled as the psyuck darted towards, Keep going, hit his head.. he thought.

Amora shielded her eyes as she saw the Psyduck wag his tail. Unfortunately, this caused her arms to get attacked by the pokemon's Scratch. She grit her fangs, the pain of claws being raked on her arms being a bit too stingy than she expected. She used Leer again, lunging at the Psyduck and using another Scratch attack.

Esther watched from afar, observing her opponent's movements. It seemed like any normal, repetitive battle. But there was something... off. She didn't know what, but something was just going a bit different than she had expected.

The psyduck seemed to develop a purple aura as it was attacked. "Now! Show em what that tm taught you!" the kid yelled. The psyduck screeched as aura enveloped him like a flame and his eyes glowed. The psycuck pointed at the Axew, no longer holding his head in pain, and used Psychic! It focused it's abilities onto the Axew in attempt to fling it into the air.

Amora screeched, suddenly being thrown in the air. Her head hurt, and she didn't like flying! She began falling from the sky, frightened and not knowing what to do. It was then her trainer yelled out orders, a very odd order. Having no choice but to comply, the dragon pokemon began spinning down to the Psyduck, her arms outstretched and her claws at ready for a falling Scratch attack. The fall would increase her impact, effectively making the attack more deadly.

The psyduck quickly jumped out of the way, it ran at the Axew with another scratch, it's eyes still glowing. The psyduck's headache was gone, leaving room for it's psychic power to flow through. His trainer smirked arrogantly, "We got this in the bag!" he made a weird rapping gesture as if he had just won some kind of rap competition.

Amora braced herself on time, landing onto the ground without taking too much impact. She pulled herself up immediately, seeing the Psyduck suddenly run towards her with another Scratch attack. She endured the claws, now enraged. Eyes glinting, she used another leer to lower the Psyduck's defenses. She raised her hand up, ready to bring it down the water pokemon's face for throwing her. To her, and her trainer's surprise, her claws began to glow an eerie black. The power it emitted seemed capable of corrupting any psychic energy.

Esther watched, a bit surprised. The dark energy seemed familiar. A dark move? 'No... Assurance. Amora learned Assurance?'

The psyduck was dealt critical damage. It screeched as it was slashed in the face. It fell backwards and was quickly returned by the trainer, who seemed surprise, "O-Okay then! Go! Zubat!" A great ball was thrown onto the field with a zubat flapping in the air above it, "ZU ZU BAT BAT" it cried.

"Amora, remember to cover your ears. Zubat are known to use SuperSonic, which can confuse you." Esther immediately warned, knowing that the runt of a trainer would probably use this against her and her pokemon. She felt grateful of the excruciating studies she was forced to partake in when she was younger, but quickly banished the feeling as she remembered how painful it was. "Leer, Scratch."

Amora nodded, glaring fiercely at the flying pokemon before taking a running leap. Her claws were outstretched, ready to rake across the bat.

The Zubat took advantage of the Axew's removal of her hands from her ears to use supersonic. It was still hit with both attacks. It then glowed a bit green as it charged toward the Axew and attempt to latch on and suck the life out of it in a leech life.

Amora grew alert as the Zubat opened its mouth, about to use a Supersonic as she aimed for a Scratch. She immediately brought her hands to her ears, having to instead use her tusks to scratch the opponent. It did only half the damage it was supposed to, sad to say. She screeched as the Zubat used Leech Life, sucking away a small amount of her health. She smashed her hand down, attempting to swat it off her. Her hand glowed an eerie black, similar to the one she had used against the Psyduck earlier.

The zubat was hit with the attacks, and repeated it's strategy. It used Supersonic, opening it's mouth even wider as it emitted supersonic waves from it's voice. It flapped it's wings furiously as it dove towards the Axew with another Leech Life coming for it.
